Department of Justice (Philippines)
Central Authority for Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance
Key Role in International Criminal Cooperation
The Department of Justice (DOJ) of the Philippines plays a crucial role in international criminal cooperation through its central authority for extradition and mutual legal assistance treaties (MLATs) on criminal matters. Under the 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, the DOJ established the Office of Cybercrime (OOC), which serves as the Central Authority.
The DOJ's responsibilities include processing and executing extradition requests from foreign governments, providing legal assistance to other countries in investigations and prosecutions, and coordinating with international law enforcement agencies to combat transnational crimes such as terrorism, human trafficking, and cybercrimes.
The DOJ's role as the central authority ensures that the Philippines meets its international obligations and demonstrates its commitment to justice and cooperation in the global fight against crime.
