Former NBA Star, Hall of Famer to Lead Team into New Era

Dallas, TX - June 28, 2021

The Dallas Mavericks have announced the appointment of Jason Kidd as the team's 10th head coach in franchise history. Kidd, a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, joins the Mavericks after a successful playing career that spanned two decades.

Kidd, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018, brings a wealth of experience and success to the Mavericks. As a player, he was a 10-time NBA All-Star, five-time All-NBA selection, and the 2011 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. After retiring from playing, Kidd embarked on a successful coaching career, leading the Brooklyn Nets to two consecutive NBA Playoff appearances.

The Mavericks are owned by Mark Cuban and Nico Harrison serves as the team's general manager. The team has had nine previous head coaches, with Rick Carlisle serving the longest tenure from 2008 to 2021. Carlisle resigned from his position on June 25, paving the way for Kidd's appointment.

Quinn Buckner and Jim Cleamons have spent their entire NBA coaching careers with the Mavericks, while Don Nelson is the only Mavericks coach to have won the NBA Coach of the Year Award.
